Durban Poison holds status as one of the absolute best sativa strains available in popular markets. Traced back to South Africa’s second largest city, Durban Poison is made up of sativa landrace genetics. The term landrace here means that this strain is an example of a “pure sativa,” with no indica genetics mixed in.

As you can guess, Durban Poison comes with a very racy, stimulating, and energetic high. This cultivar gets me into my own head-space more than any other strain I have tried. The extremely psychoactive and euphoric effects make me feel totally shut off from the outside world and completely indifferent to outside stimuli. Consequently, this is my favourite strain to use in the daytime when I want to be by myself and dig deep into creative projects.

Landraces are often building block strains that lend their genetics to many subsequent cultivars. The genetics that come from Durban Poison are actually responsible for some of the sweetest strains out on the market. Direct descendants of “Durb” include Cherry Pie, as well as the revered Girl Scout Cookies (GSC) strain. Futhermore, descendants of these two dessert-like strains produce even more decadent creations, such as: Sunset Sherbet, Gelato, and Wedding Cake.

Unfortunately the review I have so far of this strain remains fairly incomplete. This is because, as you may be able to judge from the photo, my current batch of Durban Poison isn’t quite top quality. It is hard for me to discern much aroma and flavour from these dry shaky buds, therefore I’ve chosen to leave those spots empty in my review.

These pictured buds (above) are an example of flower that I would only purchase at bargain prices. However, even though these buds are not “top-shelf,” the effects that I get from Durban Poison are never short of top-notch.
