Besides maybe my first few entries, I only write long reviews for strains that really stand out in some way, whether for their history, or their effects, or the experiences I’ve had with them. I’ve gone back and forth about whether I really wanted to blog about Lime Skunk, because somehow, she is both fairly exquisite and also quite ordinary, at the same time. Although, since this fact makes her unique in her own way, I have decided to write in depth about the prized, yet plain, Lime Skunk.

In my experiences with cannabis, I’ve come to subjectively classify two different “types” of sativa-dominant strains. The first type is what I would call the “coffee-sativa” or the “wake and bake” sativa, which are strains that I can partake in early in the day, in order to get energized and motivated both physically and mentally. The second is what I would call the “mellow-sativa” or the “mid-day” sativa, which are sativa-dominant strains that stimulate the mind, but keep me more subdued and relaxed. Examples of the former, for me, have been: Green Crack, Durban Poison, Willie Nelson, Trinity, Seawarp, Super Lemon Haze, and Laughing Buddha. Examples of the latter would include: Kentucky Durban, Green Congolese, Durban Cookies, and the strain I am reviewing now, Lime Skunk.

A good Lime Skunk is known to be high-end and highly sought after cannabis. I believe Lime Skunk’s desirability is due to her incredibly rich terpene profile and substantial THC content. In my opinion, the majority of this strain’s appeal is in the bag; it smells very richly of sharp citrus and has an adequately dense coat of trichomes. The flavour profile is also quite beautiful, tasting of sweet hash, cut with a refreshing twist of lime. I also assume that this flower is cured to perfection, as the smoke is as smooth as butter, and despite the potency, induces no coughing. The only additional remarkable feature of Lime Skunk is her ability to erase all sensations of pain and nausea and create a numbing sensation over the whole body. The remainder of the effects are then relatively run-of-the-mill; the effects spark some mild creativity and mental stimulation, create sensations of contentment and well-being, plus a feeling of being mellow, relaxed, or possibly sedated, depending on your tolerance. As probably expected, this strain will also give you wicked dry mouth and hunger, and, if you overindulge, you might feel some panicked thoughts or dizziness.

I have had my batch of Lime Skunk since summertime (now being the cold dead of January). It is not a strain that I want to use all the time, due to its sedation and couch-lock potential, however, Lime Skunk has proven to be an absolute must-have in the case of “emergencies.” An emergency for me is usually unmanageable period cramps or a bad hangover; and I’ve experienced that for managing the symptoms of intense pain and nausea, Lime Skunk is an unbeatable sativa. I have been endearingly referring to this strain as my PMS/Hangover 911, although, for any other occasion, Lime Skunk falls a bit short from remarkable.
